A man has tragically died after he fell from a cliff in Co Antrim on Monday evening.

At approximately 6.45pm last night, July 3, police said they received "a report for a concern for safety" of a man in the Ramore area of Portrush in Antrim.

The man, who has not yet been named, died at the scene, with police not treating his death as suspicious.

In a statement to Belfast Live, a PSNI spokesperson said: "Officers attended along with our colleagues from other emergency services, including HM Coastguard. Sadly, the man died at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious."

Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rope Rescue Teams were also dispatched to the scene.

A social media post from the coastguard read: "[Crews were tasked] to reports of a person fallen from the cliffs at Ramore Head, Portrush.

"A casualty was recovered but sadly declared deceased at the scene."

DUP MP Carla Lockhart said: "Such sad news - our thoughts are very much with all those caught up in this tragic incident. The beginning of the summer holidays and a family plunged into grief.

"Many thanks to our emergency services who are always to the fore in times of need."
