Man City XI vs Arsenal: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for Community Shield today

Josko Gvardiol is not in the squad for his Manchester City debut against Arsenal in the Commnunity Shield at Wembley today.

And Kevin De Bruyne is only on the bench as Pep Guardiola names a largely first-choice starting line-up for the curtain-raiser.

The Belgian is back in training after a hamstring injury forced him out of the Champions League final in May, and he hasn’t played since despite returning to the bench for last week’s friendly defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Pep Guardiola is also without Nathan Ake. The Dutch defender limped out of the recent game against Bayern Munich and was, like De Bruyne, an unused substitute in Seoul.

Julian Alvarez has featured frequently in pre-season and could slot in behind Erling Haaland while Mateo Kovacic makes his competitive debut in the midfield.

Man City XI: Ortega; Walker, Stones, Dias, Akanji; Rodri, Kovacic; Bernardo, Grealish, Alvarez; Haaland

Subs: Ederson, Phillips, Laporte, De Bruyne, Gomez, Foden, Palmer, Lewis, McAtee

Injuries: Ake, De Bruyne

Date and time: 4pm BST, Sunday August 6 2023

Venue: Wembley Stadium
