Man City Women 1-0 Manchester United player ratings - Wonderful Weir strike proves the difference

Manchester City player ratings

Ellie Roebuck - A little nervy but no major errors. Alert in the second half to push Toone's effort away. 6

Demi Stokes - Penned back by Russo, but keeping her quiet at the same time. Helped Hemp in attack and was effective down the left. 6

Alex Greenwood - Wearing a protective eye mask, lead the defence well. Took a nasty whack in the first half but continued bravely and did well. 6

Alanna Kennedy - Deputising well for Houghton, and some important interceptions to keep United out. 6

Lucy Bronze - Deserves credit for Ella Toone's quiet afternoon, and equally tried to drive forward on the right. 6

Keira Walsh - Protected the defence well, some good touches to keep possession. Nothing fancy, but always there to make the right pass. 6

Vicky Losada - One good effort over the bar, another blocked. A reliable presence alongside Walsh in midfield. 6

Jess Park - Lively on the wing, and it was her great ball for Hemp that should have opened the scoring. Got the cross away every time and hit the post cleverly in the second half. 7

Lauren Hemp - Should have scored early on from four yards. Otherwise bright and City's best attacker, putting that miss behind her to continue to create scoring chances. 7

Georgia Stanway - Successful in linking midfield to attack and getting a lot of joy. Saw a handful of efforts blocked, and oftten made the right pass to Hemp or Park. 8

Ellen White - Held the ball up well, and always alert for a half chance. Two good efforts in the first half. 7

Caroline Weir (on 74) - Simply incredible. In 2019 she found the top corner from range. In 2021 she chipped the keeper from the edge of the area. Now, she's chipped the keeper from range. 9

Manchester United

Mary Earps - Brave to stop White from scoring early on, and commanded her box well. Helpless for another Weir stunner. 6

Hannah Blundell - Jess Park beater her every time and got a cross away. Usually reliable, but simply couldn't cope with the young City winger. 5

Maria Thorisdottir - Good block from Losada and helped clear it away on a number of occasions after City got into dangerous positions. 6

Diane Caldwell - Tried to keep White quiet and did a decent job in her first Manchester derby. Deserved booking for bringing down Hemp. 6

Ona Batlle - Struggled to contain Hemp and was regularly beaten in the first half, but grew into the game after that poor start and forced City to focus their attacks elsewhere. 5

Hayley Ladd - Kept busy with Hemp and Stanway on her side, just about holding her position in a difficult contest. 6

Katie Zelem - Solid enough in defensive midfield, but struggled to turn possession into attacks. 6

Vilde Boe Risa - Played attacking midfield but it just didn't happen for her, and she was replaced first. 5

Signe Bruun - Isolated up front and barely had a look-in against the City defence. 5

Ella Toone - Tried hard, but couldn't get past Walsh. Had a good effort on the hour mark, but will have wanted to be involved more than she was. 5

Alessia Russo - Played more deeper out wide and couldn't influence the game as a result. Might have been better deployed up front. 6

Martha Thomas (on 64) - Had a header from a corner that went wide. 6

Kirsty Hanson (on 77) - No impact.
