Man City vs Manchester United prediction and odds: Reds can cause Etihad upset

Check out our 11/5 Man City vs Manchester United prediction below

Bookmaker prices for Sunday's 188th Manchester derby suggest City's 100 per cent home record is not under threat but this looks anything but a straightforward three points for Pep Guardiola's side.

City are, understandably, red-hot 4/11 favourites with Betway, to bag a fourth Etihad win of the season but they host a United side firmly on the up under Erik ten Hag and the Reds have won on three of their last four visits to the blue side of the city.

And those who can smell another upset are going to be well rewarded once again because United are a hugely tempting 7/1 to win a fifth straight Premier League match of the season.

United haven't played a Premier League game since beating Arsenal 3-1 at the beginning of the month but the upside to that is that it will have afforded ten Hag more time to work with his players on the training field. Some of that planning time will no doubt have been aimed at finding a way to stop Erling Haaland, who has scored at least once in all bar one of his Premier League matches so far.

It's undoubtedly a huge test for the Raphael Varane/Lisandro Martinez partnership, especially as they can't compete with the Norwegian in terms of height, but they are arguably the most in-form central defensive partnership in the Premier League right now.

City have racked up a colossal 14 goals in just three Premier League home matches so far this season but they've not exactly been taxed by the early season fixture list with two of the three promoted sides already having been to the Etihad.

The Citizens cruised to a 3-0 victory at Wolves before the international break and their cumulative xGA of 3.4 (expected goals against) is by some distance the strongest defensive performance in the division so far.

However, the 3-3 draw at St James's Park and 4-2 win over Crystal Palace highlighted that this City side are far from bombproof at the back if you can get at them.

Step forward a United side that have scored at least once in each of their last six trips to the Etihad and a side that is set up perfectly to hit City on the break.

Man City vs Manchester United prediction

As is nearly always the case with Man City at home in the league, they are very restrictive odds. Scoring draws at Newcastle and Aston Villa highlight that despite the prices, they don't just need to turn up each week in order to win.

And that is most definitely the case for a Manchester derby, especially as the opposition are set up so well to counter the hosts. A dynamic front three of Rashford, Sancho and Anthony, with Fernandes pulling the strings in behind, is capable of rattling a City defence can definitely be got at.

United have done well in this fixture in recent years and they look value to come away with at least a point once again.
