Man City told how they can hurt Manchester United ahead of derby

Shaun Wright-Phillips has highlighted where Manchester City can exploit Manchester United in Sunday's Manchester derby.

The Blues cruised to victory over their rivals in the reverse fixture in November. But at the Etihad, it could be a different prospect with Pep Guardiola winless in his last three home meetings with the Reds.

Both sides are suffering from injury issues with the Blues forced to prepare without star defender Ruben Dias. Whilst, United are set to be without Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani for the meeting, and with their attacking options are minimal, the former City attacker believes they can exploit a different area of Ralf Rangnick's side.

"The way United play, the combination between high press and counter-attack, it’s set up to be an interesting game.," he said speaking to ManCity.com. "We can get the better of them in the midfield - it depends whether he plays, but Anthony Elanga is the tricky obstacle as he likes to get back and help and get inside.

"But you do tend to see spaces left in midfield where McTominay and Fred have to cover too much ground and that’s normally where City are at our strongest. If we win that battle, I think we’ll win the game."
