Man City to announce first transfer of summer window as £46m signing reveals Club World Cup plan

Manchester City are poised to announce their first signing of the summer transfer window after comments from Tijjani Reijnders.

The Dutch international’s medical was reported to have taken place on Sunday after Man City reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign the midfielder for £46m.

Reijnders has, now, effectively confirmed the transfer is all but complete by discussing the aforementioned medical and the plan for this summer’s revamped Club World Cup tournament.

Speaking to Gazzetta, he said: "The medical? I couldn't wait to do it. The plan is to take part at the Club World Cup with City. I'm really excited about that.

“Doing that means I'll get to know my new team-mates sooner."

All that remains is for Man City to officially announce the transfer, which they must do before June 10 if Reijnders is to be registered in the Club World Cup squad.

The 26-year-old was a standout performer in an otherwise disappointing 2024/25 season for Milan. He scored 15 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions, weighing in with five assists but couldn’t help the Italian giants qualify for Europe.

That said, Reijnders is not expected to be the only new arrival at the Etihad Stadium this week.

City are close to completing a move for Wolves full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri after the Algerian completed his medical on Saturday, whilst they can accelerate a deal for Rayan Cherki now that his involvement with France at the Nations League finals is now over.

According to latest reports, Man City and Lyon have resumed talks over Cherki after a first bid was rejected last week.
