Manchester City forward Ellen White has been forced to withdraw from the England camp after testing positive for Covid-19 with the home European Championship just two weeks away.
It means she will miss Friday’s pre-tournament friendly with the Netherlands and is also a doubt for the Lionesses’ final warm-up game against Switzerland on June 30. England play Austria in the competition’s curtain-raiser at Old Trafford on June 6.
White will likely be available for that fixture but may be lacking in fitness if she does indeed miss both upcoming friendly matches. The 33-year-old is one of Sarina Wiegman’s main strikers and is just three goals away from Wayne Rooney ’s all-time England scoring record.

The attacker has returned home and will be monitored regularly with a view to returning to camp as soon as possible, according to City’s media team. Wiegman will not call up a replacement, instead sticking with the 22 players she has at her disposal.
White scored seven times this season as City finished in the Champions League spots in the WSL. She became England’s all-time female leading scorer in November after increasing her tally to 48 goals in the 20-0 mauling of Latvia. She has since improved her international record to 50 goals in 105 games.
Meanwhile, City teammate Steph Houghton hit the headlines last week after being left out of Wiegman’s Euros squad. The former England captain has been sidelined since January with an Achilles injury.
