Haaland told he is 'lucky' to have not been sent off

Erling Haaland was told that he was a 'lucky man' for avoiding a straight red card in the Blues' Premier League clash with Everton.

The Norwegian frontman opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola 's side against the Toffees, with the 22-year-old grabbing his 21st goal of the Premier League season so far. The home side were comfortable in the first period, but the game was played on the edge and Haaland went down early with an injury.

He seemingly felt that the Everton players were targeting him throughout the first half, later reacting by chasing down Toffees defender Vitalii Mykolenko, before sliding in with a poor challenge - earning himself a yellow card in the process.

Stones accuses Everton of timewasting

John Stones criticised Everton for time-wasting after the two teams shared the spoils at the Etihad Stadium.

City had the better of the first half and were in front on 24 minutes when Haaland beat Jordan Pickford after being set up by Riyad Mahrez. The game had an overall feisty feel to it and the Norwegian talisman was booked when he flew into a rash challenge just before the end of the half.

Any momentum City had following the interval evaporated when the game was halted for a long period after a technology malfunction for the assistant referee. Once the game restarted, Everton equalised.
