Man City star Erling Haaland begged to join Manchester United as he strolls down the street

Erling Haaland was begged to sign for Manchester United in a comical video which has been doing the rounds on popular social media platform TikTok. Haaland, 22, continues to set the Premier League alight with 10 goals coming from his first six appearances in the competition for cross-city neighbours Manchester City.

Having missed out on signing England captain Harry Kane last season, key figures in the Etihad Stadium boardroom switched their attentions to Haaland this summer and promptly won the race for his £51million signature. It saw the Premier League champions win the goal-scoring lottery and so that has proved with his break-taking start.

Had things turned out a little differently, though, Haaland might have signed for United in January 2020 - when the player settled on Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund despite strong interest. United were keen on Haaland during subsequent windows, too, but City emerged as heavy favourites and, ultimately, got their target.

Underlined by his father, Alf-Inge, playing for City during his own career, Haaland is very much a blue in Manchester terms and yet that has not stopped one opportunistic United supporter from doing his best to play agent. He asked repeatedly for Haaland to join United in a TikTok video which emerged on Friday.

Haaland was busy minding his own business while walking down a Manchester street until he was pressed on - and responded to - suggestions he picked the wrong club this summer. A voice from the car said: "Haaland, you came to the wrong side of Manchester."

Haaland responded: "No, they love me here." After discussing his transfer to City with another person in the car, the first voice added: "Come to us next season, United. Yeah, you know it. Go on. See you in a bit Haaland."

Haaland did not say anything back at that stage, but the prolific Norway international did have a smile on his face. He has spoken previously about similar exchanges since moving to the city from Germany and, in doing, expressed his love at engaging with United supporters and others.
