Man City players secure hat-trick of awards in glowing endorsement of transfer policy

Three Manchester City youngsters have capped impressive seasons out on loan by winning their loan clubs' Young Player of the Season awards.

City have sent a number of young players out on loan in the Championship and below to get a taste of professional football, and most are fighting for promotions - if they haven't already secured them.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis played a key role as Burnley won the Championship, with Sheffield United finishing in second with the help of James McAtee and Tommy Doyle playing key roles.

Coventry are on the brink of sealing a play-off place as their promotion hopes remain alive, as they sit fifth, three points ahead of Sunderland in seventh, with one game to go. In order not to finish in the top six, they would need to lose to Middlesbrough next weekend, and for Millwall and Sunderland both to win.

And helping the Sky Blues keep their chances going into the play-offs has been defender Callum Doyle, who will be looking to add a second successive promotion to his record after winning the League One play-offs with Sunderland last year. In the build-up to the last day, Doyle has been crowned the Coventry Young Player of the Season.

Doyle, 19, signed a new contract at City earlier this season, keeping him at the club until 2027 - with the option of another year in City's favour. He has played 42 times for Coventry this season, starting each of their last 27 Championship games, helping his side keep 15 clean sheets across the campaign.

As well as Doyle, McAtee picked up the Sheffield United Young Player of the Year award at the weekend following a fine season at Bramall Lane, beating City teammate Tommy Doyle to the award - although Doyle did pick up the Goal of the Season accolade for his incredible effort in the FA Cup quarter-final against Blackburn.

Speaking at the Blades' award night, McAtee said: "It's been a special season. I came to get promoted and we did it."

Completing a hat-trick of Young Player of the Season awards, goalkeeper James Trafford was recognised for his impressive season back on loan at Bolton, who have secured a play-off place with a game to spare. Trafford has already won one trophy this season as the Trotters won the EFL Trophy last month, and will be hoping to complete a fine campaign with promotion to the Championship.

As City always look to find the right loan for the right player, the number of youngsters performing regularly and playing for promotion is another endorsement to the club's transfer policy when it comes to developing their young talents.
