Man City 'open talks' with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic and more transfer rumours

Manchester City have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatian is set to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, and Football.London reports that he "now looks set to have made his last appearance" for Chelsea.

City boss Pep Guardiola may be in need of midfield reinforcements this summer, with Ilkay Gundogan's contract at the Etihad set to expire and no new deal currently in sight.

It is claimed that City are now in discussions to sign Kovacic, with Chelsea looking to move on "a number of senior players" this summer as new manager Mauricio Pochettino aims to trim down the Stamford Bridge outfit's bloated squad.

The report adds that it is "unclear" how much Chelsea would ask for in terms of a transfer fee for Kovacic, while The Athletic claims that German giants Bayern Munich are also interested in the midfielder.

Elsewhere, Manchester City are apparently mulling over whether to dip for Leeds winger Willy Gnonto after his club’s Premier League relegation.

The 19-year-old already has ten caps for Italy and scored his maiden international goal in June. The teenager is highly valued by Leeds fans, who are anticipating his exit following their demotion.

Gnonto provided four assists and four goals in 28 appearances for Leeds last season and has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs. According to Calciomercato, City are one of them with Arsenal also said to be tracking his situation.

Roma and Fiorentina are also eyeing a potential swoop with Gnonto set to be available for a reduced price after Leeds’ drop back down to the Championship. A number of players are expected to leave Elland Road this summer including former City player Jack Harrison.
