Man City join Manchester United in race for Pau Torres and more transfer rumours

Reports in Spain suggest Manchester City have joined the race for Villarreal defender Pau Torres this summer.

Torres is being heavily linked with a move away from La Liga, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham all touted as possible destinations. The 25-year-old has impressed with the Yellow Submarine during their run to the Champions League semi-finals, having helped guide them to wins over Juventus and Bayern Munich before being knocked out by Liverpool.

City have been linked with the defender previously, and were claimed to have been in the running for his signature last summer. The Blues were said to have been ‘very well positioned’ to land Torres, despite interest from Tottenham.

And, according to Spanish outlet Sport, City are set to revisit that interest this summer. The report claims the Blues have entered the race alongside their Premier League rivals, with Villarreal increasingly aware Torres could depart this summer as Unai Emery prepares for his exit.

Elsewhere, Ilkay Gundogan is being linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer. Speculation has followed the midfielder since he was spotted boarding a flight to Spain amid rumours he could be allowed to leave the Etihad.

The Daily Star suggests Gundogan has been told he can leave the Blues this summer, with Arsenal reportedly looking to utilise him in a new role. The former Borussia Dortmund star is being touted as a potential false nine for the Gunners, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s futures in doubt.

Arsenal though look set to face competition for the 31-year-old’s signature. Rumours suggest Barcelona are also interested, while a move back to Germany has also been suggested.
