Man City injury update: Phil Foden, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones latest news and return dates

Manchester City are simply not enjoying life on the road at the moment.

Despite snapping a seven-game winless run by beating Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium last week, they it’s now six away games without a victory across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side following a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Furthermore, City haven’t kept a clean sheet on their travels since the beginning of October - the 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League - and have conceded at least two goals during this spell.

Unsurprisingly with issues defensively, and Rico Lewis facing a domestic suspension after his red card at Selhurst Park, Guardiola will be hopeful of bolstering his backline ahead of huge games against Juventus and Manchester United this week.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Manchester City injuries.

Phil Foden

The England international missed the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest because of bronchitis and that also kept him out of the draw against Crystal Palace.

It’s unclear as to when Phil Foden will be available for selection again, though the Champions League clash in Turin could be a possibility.

Potential return date: Wednesday December, 11 vs Juventus

Manuel Akanji

Manuel Akanji became the latest Man City player to suffer an injury after he was replaced at half-time against Forest but Guardiola revealed the defender would be assessed ahead of the Crystal Palace match.

Although, the versatile Switzerland international wasn’t risked at Selhurst Park, but it remains to be seen if he will be available for selection against Juventus or for the Manchester derby.

Potential return date: Unknown

Nathan Ake

A stop-start season continued for Nathan Ake against Forest as he pulled up in the closing stages and signalled to be substituted.

Speaking afterwards, Guardiola braced himself to be without the Dutchman for an extended period of time.

"Ake’s injury doesn’t look good,” the Spaniard told reporters. "I’m sad for Nathan. Manu we’ll see. Maybe not Selhurst Park but Turin. Nathan I think will be longer.”

Potential return date: Unknown

John Stones

John Stones has not featured since he came off at half-time in the Carabao Cup fourth round defeat at the hands of Tottenham.

Speaking after that match, Guardiola said: "John felt good, but after 45 minutes he had to leave.”

However, no update has been provided on when he will return.

Mateo Kovacic

Man City’s midfield problems deepened when Mateo Kovacic returned from the last international break with an injury.

The 30-year-old has not played for Man City since, missing all five matches since club football resumed, with Guardiola most recently providing an update before his side were beaten by Tottenham.

“It will be a while, a few weeks or one month,” Guardiola said at the time.

Potential return date: Late December 2024

Oscar Bobb

Having impressed in pre-season, Oscar Bobb was dealt a cruel blow when he suffered a leg fracture in training ahead of the new campaign.

The 21-year-old has slowly been building his way back to fitness, but he will not return this year and instead have to wait until the second-half of the season to make an impact.

“I think, January or February, he will be ready,” Guardiola said in October.

Potential return date: January or February 2025

Rodri

Ballon d’Or winner Rodri suffered an ACL injury earlier in September against Arsenal, undergoing surgery which was expected to keep him out for the rest of the season.

However, speaking last month on The Rest Is Football podcast, Rodri revealed he has not given up hope on returning in the final weeks of the campaign.

He said: "My target is to come back this season. I don't give up on this season, [but] I don't want to make any mistakes. My target is six or seven months.

"I am doing much better than I thought.”

Potential return date: Summer 2025
