Manchester City have handed Chelsea a major boost amid the race to sign Declan Rice in the upcoming transfer window. Pep Guardiola's side have emerged as contenders to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the summer, according to the Mirror.
Last month, the Daily Mail reported that the Premier League champions were keen to rival Manchester United for the West Ham midfielder's signature. However, it has since been claimed by BBC journalist Mick Minay that City no longer have interest in signing Rice amid fears of falling into a trap, just as they did with Harry Kane in the summer.
So, with City shifting their attention to Leeds midfielder Phillips, Chelsea could be granted a free run at the London Stadium's prized asset. Rice has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge lately, with clubs expected to begin queuing up for his signature at the end of the season.
