Man City fans slam referee Anthony Taylor for not sending off Liverpool FC star Thiago Alcantara

Manchester City supporters have blasted referee Anthony Taylor after he refused to send off Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara during the Premier League title showdown. Honours were even at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon and the intense battle between those two sides is set to rumble on.

Goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus - one of three changes made to the starting lineup - twice put City into the lead. However, the champions were ultimately pegged back by equalisers from Liverpool forwards Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane. Further chances came at both ends.

However, the goals that did go in were not the only flashpoints. A VAR check cut short celebrations from Raheem Sterling - while Alcantara was a constant offender in the engine room.

He was eventually booked for a rash challenge, but further opportunities to caution the Spaniard - which ought to have resulted in a red card - were passed up by referee Taylor. It was spotted across the board on social media and City followers have made frustrations known.

A share of the spoils means City are one point clear with seven games remaining. They also appear to have a more favourable run in as Pep Guardiola and his star-studded team pursue what would be a fourth Premier League crown in five seasons. Liverpool were victorious in 2020 after Project Restart.

But what impact might a dismissal for Thiago have had this afternoon? Here are a selection of comments as posted by City supporters on social media platform Twitter;
