Man City fans love Real Sociedad's cheeky post after beating Manchester United

Manchester City fans have praised Real Sociedad after the Spanish club shared a cheeky social media post after their 1-0 win against Manchester United last night.

United lost their opening Europa League match to Sociedad on Thursday night, as former City midfielder David Silva was in action for the La Liga club. The 36-year-old played a crucial role in his side's win, as it was his shot that caught Lisandro Martinez's arm, winning his team the controversial decisive penalty.

Silva has played against United 21 times in his career, scoring four goals and providing four assists. During his career, the Spaniard has only ever lost twice at Old Trafford when he's been on the pitch and last night helped bolster that record even further.

City unveiled a statue of Silva, as well as Vincent Kompany, in August last year. The Sociedad midfielder made 314 Premier League appearances during his time at Manchester that saw him win four Premier League titles.

Silva was touched by City's decision to honour him with a statue last year, as he said: "Being at City changed my life. I'm proud of what we did together and I feel emotional that it has been recognised like this."

Although his status as a City great is already well cemented in the minds of fans, last night's win at Old Trafford would have helped his stock rise even further among supporters. The rivalry between the two Manchester clubs is clearly well known in Spain, as Sociedad's cheeky social media post showed.

The club's official account shared a video of Silva boarding the team bus after the win, with the following caption: "Manchester is blue... and white".

City fans were quick to show their appreciation for the playful dig at their rivals, as they took to social media to share their love for not only Silva, but their new favourite team in Spain:
