Man City could get transfer budget boost as Newcastle linked with Leeds' Jack Harrison

Manchester City could get an extra transfer boost to the tune of almost £5million as Newcastle are linked with former winger Jack Harrison.

The Leeds forward never played for City, but earned them £11m last summer as Leeds made his two-year loan permanent after Harrison played a crucial role in their promotion and impressive first season back in the Premier League.

Now, Harrison is being strongly linked with a transfer to Newcastle, and City would benefit from any move after installing a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that took him to Leeds.

City have already made well over £100m in player sales this summer with Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus the high-profile departures, while academy talents Romeo Lavia, Gavin Bazunu and Darko Gyabi have also raised over £25m between them.

Last summer, they gained an £11m bonus from a sell-on clause for Jadon Sancho, and this year it could be Harrison earning them more money if he joins Newcastle.

Having been sold for £11m, City would be due 20 per cent of any profit Leeds make, and the Whites are reportedly setting a £35m asking price on the former New York City man. If that price is met, City would get an extra £4.8m to add to their transfer budget.

And with the money spent this summer standing at £107m for Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips, there is every chance the Blues could break even or perhaps make a profit in the transfer market.

Asked about his Leeds future on their pre-season tour in Australia and whether he would be staying at Elland Road, Harrison said on Saturday: "We’ll see, we’ll see what happens."

His manager Jesse Marsch said: “There’s always been interest in Jack, like many of our players. But I know that Jack is also very happy here and that he’s done really good, that he’s a big part of what we’re doing.

“Of course there’s always possibilities that big transfer offers come in and clubs then have to decide how it fits and what are the best options moving forward. But, for me, Jack Harrison is a big part of our plans moving forward and we’re counting on him this season, for sure."
