Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan 'set to sign for Barcelona' and other transfer rumours

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly set to sign for Barcelona upon his contract expiring.

When questioned about his future last year, Gundogan admitted that he was relaxed about what will happen once his deal at the Etihad Stadium expires. However, he did admit that he was happy at City and focused entirely on the Blues.

However, this new report from journalist Jose Alvarez on El Chiringuito TV, suggests that Gundogan's time in Manchester is coming to an end. Alvarez claims that the German midfielder will sign for Barca on a Bosman deal meaning he would be able to move there for free at the end of his contract as it has now moved into its last six months.

It is understood that Gundogan is considered as a natural replacement for Sergio Busquets who is expected to leave Camp Nou at the end of his contract. Elsewhere, reports are circulating from Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips that City and Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on the Blues' loanee Levi Colwill.

Colwill is currently spending the season on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion. After initially struggling to break into the first team under Graham Potter, the 19-year-old was handed his chance to impress by Roberto De Zerbi.

The English centre-back has started the last five league matches for the Seagulls and has earned himself rave reviews on the south coast. Colwill's future at Stamford Bridge is looking unclear at present with the likes of Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly in the squad already.

However, it is understood that Chelsea are wanting to fend off interest from City and Bayern by tying the teenager down to a longer deal. At present, the defender's contract in the capital expires in 2025.
