Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan has admitted Liverpool felt "unstoppable" for a period of time last season as the two teams battled it out for the Premier League title.
Liverpool were pipped by City to the title on the final day of the season as they came from 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa to eventually win 3-2 - winning them their second title in a row.
The Reds beat City in the semi-final of the FA Cup as they went on to lift the trophy at Wembley. Gundogan believes having Liverpool as competition has pushed his side on to be better.

Gundogan is one of the lucky few players to have played under both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola and he said to The Telegraph : “It’s incredible to have a team like Liverpool who you have to compete with and who play with such intensity. They push every single game and for a period of time last season they felt unstoppable.
“The Premier League is on such a high level and you have to get 95-96 points to win the league which is incredible. It’s not something you could imagine a few years ago. It’s set the standard and having Liverpool there obviously helped us a lot.
“It helped them to reach new limits also. We always had to answer to that which also made it exciting for us, to be honest.”
