Manchester City are reportedly in negotiations with Anderlecht as they try to sign left-back Sergio Gomez.
Having been knocked back in their attempts to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton, City now look to have moved their interest elsewhere. The Blues have decided not to bid any higher for the Spain international after having their £40million offer rejected by the Seagulls.
Pep Guardiola’s side remain in the market for a new left-back, particularly after letting Oleksandr Zinchenko move to Arsenal. And they look as though they may have identified their next target in the shape of another Spanish star.

According to The Athletic, City have scouted Gomez extensively and view him as a “high-potential development talent”. The 21-year-old began his career at Barcelona before moving on to Borussia Dortmund and has become a first-team regular with Anderlecht since making the move to Belgium in June 2021.
City are said to be considering various options as they look to sign a senior option at left-back. While they are in negotiations for Gomez, it’s possible they will continue to look elsewhere for another option with more experience.
Elsewhere, reports in Germany suggest City have been knocked back in their attempts to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. The centre-back has been linked with a number of sides this summer, although Leipzig have stood firm so far.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Chelsea as part of a deal that would see Timo Werner return to the club, although Leipzig are said to have no interest in that. And if the latest reports in Germany are anything to go by, they aren’t in any mood to entertain offers from City either.
According to Bild (via Inside Futbol ), the Bundesliga side have rejected an €80m offer from the Premier League champions. Leipzig are said to have made their stance clear on not letting Gvardiol go this summer.
