Manchester City have confirmed the exit of five players with their official 2022 released and retained list.
There are no surprises in the annual released and retained list, especially with City boasting a strong record of making decisions on players' futures long before their contracts are set to expire.
In the case of captain Fernandinho, however, the Brazilian has decided to end his nine-year City career and return to his homeland after signing a one-year extension last summer. He, along with four youngsters, will officially leave the club at the end of the month.

Fernandinho is the biggest name on the list this year having left the club, while Scott Carson is also out of contract and not on the retained list.
Carson was signed as a third-choice goalkeeper after a successful loan spell from Derby, as he fills a useful role as a homegrown player in the Premier League squad. The 36-year-old made one appearance this season, as a substitute in the Champions League draw with Sporting, with City's qualification already secured.
City could still keep Carson for another year, so his omission from the retained list may be more for administrative reasons.
In the academy, Jayden Braaf has already left City for Borussia Dortmund, with the Blues deciding against offering the winger a new deal. Right-back Kwaku Oduroh is the other recognisable name released, having captained City U18s to their league title last season and playing 15 times for the under-23s this season.
Defender Rowan McDonald and forward Mohammed Aminu, who has spent time on loan at Lommel and NAC Breda in recent years, are also released at the end of their contracts.
