A man has been charged with murder after an investigation into the death of a woman in Greater Manchester.
Police were called to a property in Atherton at about 11.40am on 9 October after there were concerns for the welfare of a woman. Paramedics also went to the scene but Mashal Ilyas, 24, was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
A police spokesperson said at the time there were not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. However, after an investigation, Nadeem Muhammed Begum, 52, of Oxford Road, Atherton, has been charged with her murder.
The case was referred for a Home Office postmortem examination and the results led to the case being upgraded to a suspicious death investigation.
Police said Ilyas’s next of kin had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.
Begum was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Bolton crown court on 14 November.
