A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in a property in Stoke-on-Trent.

Carol Matthews, 73, from Stoke-on-Trent, was found dead inside a home on Denton Grove, Weston Coyney, on 22 March.

Peter Matthews, 79, also from Stoke-on-Trent, has been charged with murder. He appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 25 March.

Officers and paramedics from West Midlands ambulance service were called to the address at about 8.40am after reports of a sudden death, Staffordshire police said.

The police confirmed that the victim and suspect had been known to each other.

DI Lisa Holland said: “This is a tragic case which has understandably devastated the woman’s family. Our thoughts are very much with them at this time and we’re doing all we possibly can to support them.”

Specialist officers were supporting her family, police added.
