A 64-year-old man has been charged with murder after the body of a woman was found within a Hamilton home last week.
Walter Buchanan made no plea during the private hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, February 27, after being arrested by police.
The man, from Hamilton, was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear in court within the next eight days.
The case was committed for further examination by prosecutors.
Police arrested Buchanan after emergency services were called to an address in the plush Hamilton Park North area adjacent to the town's racecourse venue at around 8.10am on Saturday, February 18.
The body of the 37-year-old woman, who has not yet been formally identified, was found within.
Locals reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area in the days following the grim discovery.
One resident said that CID officers had been seen ‘knocking on doors’ as part of their enquiries.
Others said they had awoken to find the emergency services in the area and knew "something bad had happened."
