Man charged with attempted murder after 'serious assault at premises' in Scots town

A man has been charged with attempted murder while another man has been left in serious condition after an incident in South Lanarkshire.

Officers responded to an alleged serious assault at a premises on St Leonard Street in Lanark at around 11.30pm on Saturday July 9.

A 69-year-old man was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment to his injuries. He remains in serious condition.

A 66-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection to the incident.

He is due to appear at Lanark Sheriff Court on Monday, July 11.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a serious assault at a premises on St Leonard Street, Lanark at around 11.30pm on Saturday, 9 July, 2022.

“A 69-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was taken to Wishaw General Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

“A 66-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident.

"He is due to appear at Lanark Sheriff Court today (Monday, 11 July).”
