Man charged in connection with death of young mum killed in horror crash

A man has been charged in connection with a road crash that killed a 23-year-old mum last year.

Mum-of-one Rebecca Sivyer died after a blue Vauxhall Corsa she was a passenger in left the road on the A94 between Coupar Angus and Forfar, near Ardler, on Sunday August 22 2021. Rebecca, from Perth, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash while the driver, who was 29 at the time, was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious injuries.

Police confirmed a 30-year-old man has now been charged in connection with the crash.

Pals of Rebecca remembered her on the first anniversary of her death last week. Mum Wendy Ghekis asked loved ones to select a photo of Rebecca as their profile picture on social media by way of tribute.

One wrote: "1 year ago today Rebecca Sivyer - so sad... God took another angel too soon RIP Beautiful."

Pals shared pictures of Rebecca to mark a year since her death (collect)

Another added: "Rebecca a year without you, it’s been the worst. We all would give anything to have another day with you. No words can describe the pain."

Wendy later thanked friends for their efforts to remember her daughter, writing on Facebook: "I’d like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone of you who participated in remembrance of Rebecca’s 1st year memorial anniversary of her sad and tragic passing.

"To each of you who changed there profile picture to Rebecca or posted pictures and took the time out of your day to light a candle, for all the lovely tributes that were written and all the private messages that were sent to me; the flowers and cards received.

"I cannot thank you all enough for helping, I have been overwhelmed at the amount of support and kind words of encouragement that we have received at this difficult time."

She added that the family - herself, Rebecca's sisters Alexandra and Scarlett, and Rebecca's daughter Millie, nine - thanked everyone from "the bottom of our hearts".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following a fatal road crash on the A94, Coupar Angus to Forfar road, near Ardler on 22 August, 2021, a 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with this crash and a report was forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."

The man is expected to appear in court at a later date.
