Man charged as bus driver fights for life following Battersea Bridge attack

Battersea Bridge - (Local Library)

A 32-year-old man has been charged after a bus driver was assaulted on Battersea Bridge.

Officers were called just after midnight on Monday following reports of the incident.

A 64-year-old TfL bus driver was given emergency first aid before being taken to hospital by London’s air ambulance.

He remains in a critical condition, the Metropolitan Police said.

Gary Jones, 32, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has since been charged.

He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning and was remanded in custody ahead of a plea hearing at Kingston Crown Court on Monday, 15 June.

Anyone with information that could help police should call 101 quoting CAD 174/18May or, to remain anonymous, independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
