Gardai have now charged one man in relation to an incident at a Carlow post office.
The man, who is in his 30s, is set to appear before a hearing at Carlow District Court later on Thursday.
He and another male were arrested on Wednesday over the incident at Hoseys Post Office, in which it was alleged that they brought a dead man onto the premises in an attempt to collect his pension.
Both men have since claimed they did not know that the man, Peadar Doyle, 66, was dead at the time.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of deception yesterday, and taken to separate Garda stations.
And on Thursday morning gardai say they have charged one of the men and released the other without charge, with a file going to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
A Garda spokesperson said: “Following the arrest of two men in their 30s yesterday, as part of the ongoing investigation into an incident at a business premises in Carlow town on Friday, 21st January, 2022, one of the men has been charged. He is scheduled to appear before Carlow District Court this morning, 27th January 2022.
“The second man has been released from custody and a file will be prepared for the DPP.”
