A man who allegedly barricaded himself in a room while armed with a sledgehammer has been charged after a near 12-hour siege in inner-city Brisbane.

Queensland Police were called to a property on Park St in Spring Hill about 3.30pm on Sunday after receiving reports a man armed with a hammer was inside.

They were told when they arrived the man had barricaded himself inside a room.

Police said the 39-year-old man from Bundamba was taken into custody about 2am on Monday.

He faces several charges, including entering a dwelling and committing an offence, and possessing tainted property.

The man is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court later on Monday. No one was injured in the incident.
