Man charged after attempt to set home unit alight

A man will face court after allegedly trying set a Melbourne home unit alight with 13 people inside, including children.

The incident was sparked by a noise dispute between the occupants of two units on Racecourse Road in Flemington on Sunday night, police say.

Residents from one unit asked two men to quieten down outside their apartment.

The pair are accused of then assaulting one person and making threats.

Accelerant was allegedly poured on the front doors, windows and hallway outside an apartment with 13 people inside.

Police later executed a warrant and say they found items they believe were used in the attempted arson, suspected stolen items and drugs.

A 37-year-old man was charged with attempted criminal damage by fire, threatening to inflict serious injury, threatening to kill, drug possession and other offences.

A 26-year-old man was also arrested and is expected to be charged on summons.
