Man lost £35k organising 'magical' festival

A festival organiser has been forced to sell his business after the event was unexpectedly brought forward.

Andy, the organiser of Far Away Land, had originally planned to hold his family-friendly event in Princes Park but, after a number of objections, it was moved to Victoria Park in Southport weeks before the festival was set to take place. Residents living in the area raised concerns over alcohol being sold at the event. One objection said the sale “of alcohol in a park will lead to a huge amount of disorderly behaviour, and crime".

Now, just days after the two-day event, Andy posted on Facebook to share his dismal experience. He claims he lost £35,000 and is now selling his business. He has also said he chose to move the location of the event to Southport so he wouldn't be "letting down loads of kids" who had tickets for the event.

Andy was so "heartbroken" at how the festival unfolded he spent the majority of one afternoon in an ambulance suffering a panic attack.

He said in the statement: "I'm just a guy from Liverpool that tried to do something nice for the kids and families of Merseyside and I'm absolutely heartbroken at what’s happened. In fact, I actually spent a lot of Saturday in the back of an ambulance having a panic attack because of what had happened."

The organiser also said he lost more money than he's "earned in three years" and that he is "more than happy" to show individuals the ins and outs of the finances of the event. Following the first day, he said the second day was more successful after receiving comments from those who attended.

He said at the end of the social media post: "I tried to take everyone’s comments on board on Saturday and improve it as much as I could with better signage and timetables etc, and you were right it was a much better event on Sunday and it was so nice to get loads of lovely comments and messages from people who had a really fun, enjoyable day."
