A man has been jailed after launching a 'vicious' glass bottle attack on board a Scots train earlier this year.
The savage assault took place on the line between Inverkip and Wemyss Bay on Wednesday, January 5, when a brawl erupted between Ross Wilson, 29, of Kilbirnie and a 23-year-old man, who was also on board the service.
As the fight intensified, Wilson broke a glass bottle on a table and used it to the slash his victim across the face, leaving him seriously hurt. The man was rushed to hospital, and required stitches for a laceration wound on his face.
Wilson was quickly traced and arrested. On Tuesday, September 13, a judge at Greenock Sheriff Court sentenced him to seven months and four weeks behind bars after he pleaded guilty to serious assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
Representatives from British Transport Police say the appalling event should act as a reminder to others that brutality of this sort will not be accepted on the railway line.
BTP Detective Constable Neil Adams said: “This was a vicious attack and I am pleased that Wilson will spend his immediate future behind bars.
“Our investigation led us to Wilson and we quickly traced and arrested him in connection to the attack. This sentence should serve as a stark warning to others that violence will never be tolerated on the railway."
