Man buys Sainsbury's pizza but is unimpressed after removing 'cleverly-placed sticker'

A hungry man was left disappointed after buying an oven pizza from a Sainsbury's store as it had almost nothing on it - just a few strands of grated cheese.

Tom Scott, a product designer, bought the pizza for 49p and he couldn't see the lack of toppings as a huge sticker covered the face of the item.

What he got was just bread and tomato sauce, with a few bits of grated cheese, and now he believes that Sainsbury's may have put that sticker on intentionally to hide the lack of toppings.

As the Daily Star reports, he's taken to social media to complain and shared a snap of the sad-looking pizza, so hopefully, he'll get his 49p back.

The pizza could do with a bit more cheese (@drtommac/Twitter)

What do you think of the cheese and tomato pizza? Let us know in the comments...

Taking to Twitter, (@drtommac), he wrote alongside a laughing emoji: "Hey ⁦@sainsburys⁩ any less cheese and this might be tomato bread, good to see excellent sticker placement."

A customer representative called Caitlin was on hand to try and help, apologising for the lack of cheese.

“Hey Tom! I'm very sorry there was a lack of cheese. Can you please DM us from the link below with the name of the store they were purchased from, your full name, address and Nectar card number? So that I can look into this, Caitlin,” she wrote.

The pizza Tom bought is only 49 pence, but you still expect to get the main ingredients even for that lowly price.

"We are happy to replace this item if it is not satisfactory," Sainsbury's say on their website.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s added: "We’re in touch with Tom to apologise for his experience and to provide a refund. This item does not meet our usual high standards and we’re investigating."

This comes after a man was left surprised after buying a Tesco sandwich as it was lacking one vital ingredient - so he took to social media to complain.

Colin McKenzie, a taxi driver, went to his local supermarket and picked up his favourite lunch - a smoked ham and cheddar sandwich.

But when he sat down to eat it he was shocked, as his sandwich contained just bread, butter, and ham - lacking the advertised cheese.

He shared his discovery on Twitter and was soon inundated with comments, and one said: "You need to pay extra for the cheddar."
