Man bundled into van and assaulted before being found collapsed in road

Police are investigating after a man was bundled into the back of a van and assaulted before being found collapsed on a road a few miles away. The incident, which happened at around 5.25pm on Monday, June 6, saw the victim who was sat at a bus stop on Burnham Avenue in Llanrumney grabbed and taken into the van by two men, police said.

Less than an hour later, the 35-year-old man was found collapsed in the road near Cefn Mably Farm in Michaelston-y-Fedw having been assaulted. He was taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where he was treated for injuries that are described as not life threatening or life changing.

After the man was taken into the grey van, which came from the direction of Ball Road, it was driven off in the direction of Countisbury Avenue and was later found on fire a few miles away in Bryncyn, Pentwyn.

Police undertook extensive enquiries to arrest the suspects on Monday night, with those enquiries continuing on Tuesday (June 7). Local residents have been told to expect an increased police presence in the area, while officers are also appealing for anyone with information to come forward. A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police is investigating an incident which resulted in a man being found collapsed in the road near Cefn Mably Farm in Michaelston-y-Fedw, Cardiff. The 35-year-old, who had been assaulted, was found by a member of the public in Began Road at 6.15pm yesterday (Monday, June 6). He was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff for treatment. His injuries are described as not life threatening or life changing."

Detective Sergeant Greg Burns, from South Wales Police, added: “Extensive enquiries to arrest the suspects were carried out last night and these enquiries are continuing today. Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“We know that the victim was sat at a bus stop in Burnham Avenue, Llanrumney, at around 5.25pm when he was physically taken into a grey van by two unknown men. The vehicle came from the direction of Ball Road, drove off in the direction of Countisbury Avenue and was later found on fire in Bryncyn, Pentwyn. We would appeal for anyone living or working in these areas who has CCTV or dashcam footage which might have captured any part of this incident to please contact us.”
