A man has been jailed after attacking a woman in Wollaton with a weightlifting bar. On February 10, Nottinghamshire Police officers were called to a property where a woman was left injured after being attacked following a row.
Mohammed Mahroof, 46, hit the victim with the bar and punched her in the face after believing she had sworn at him. The victim was left with bruising to her face, a bloodied nose and injuries to her arm and leg after the incident.
Officers arrived at the scene after being called to the property at around 11pm and found the victim injured. The offender had earlier fled but was arrested and later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Mahroof, now of Balaclava Road, Derby, was jailed for 36 weeks when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on December 7. PC Poppy Castle, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This must have been a very frightening incident for the victim and it is fortunate her injuries were not more serious.
“This kind of aggression is utterly unacceptable and will always attract a very strong police response. I am pleased Mahroof has been sentenced for this offence and received a jail term.
“The force will never tolerate this sort of violence and will always pursue offenders and ensure they are brought before the courts.”
