A man was attacked with a knife and a 'for sale' sign on his doorstep in the early hours of the morning.
Aiden Cairns and Sean Ward, both 18, admitted carrying out the assault when they appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
The incident happened in Kyle Quadrant, Newarthill, at 4.40am on January 7 last year.
The male victim was in the house with other occupants, including a child aged five.
Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said: “They heard a loud bang and saw two males with hoods up who were shouting.
“Cairns was seen to pull a kitchen knife from his side while Ward picked up a 'for sale' sign.
“The occupants went on to the doorstep to try to prevent the accused coming through the door.
“Both accused tried repeatedly to strike the victim with the wooden sign and Cairns struck him with a knife, causing a minor cut to his finger.”
Police arrived and the pair were arrested later that morning.
Cairns, of Carfin Street, New Stevenston, also admitted possession of a knife and attempting to headbutt a cop.
Ward, of Central Avenue, Holytown, admitted headbutting a female constable.
Sheriff Liam Murphy called for background reports and electronic tagging assessments and deferred sentence until next month.
Cairns and Ward were allowed to remain on bail.
