Man attacked by four thugs after night out in city centre

A man was attacked on a night out in the city centre.

On Sunday, April 30, four men approached the man inside The Blossom Tree, on Myrtle Street, and a fight ensued. A short time later, at around 2.50am, the victim was standing outside when one of the men punched him on the back of his head.

The victim fell to the ground and the group attacked him, causing injuries to his head, arm, knee, and elbow. The man was able to go home but later went to hospital.

Since the assault CCTV and witness inquires have been carried out by Merseyside Police who have issued an image of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the assault.

Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: “This was an unprovoked attack in our city centre that has left a man requiring hospital treatment to various injuries. Everyone should be able go out and feel safe in our city without the fear of being attacked and we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

“I am appealing to the man shown in this image, or anyone who recognises him, to come forward as we believe he could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries. Similarly, if you saw the assault or the victim involved in this incident, please contact police as soon as possible.

“If you have any photos on your mobile of the incident or CCTV footage from the night of Sunday 30 April then do let us know as any information you hold could support our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC on Twitter, call 101, quoting reference 23000365537. You can also pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
