A 22-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal after a number of wilful fire-raising incidents in Allanton.
That follows community policing efforts in the area, which saw officers carry out extensive enquiries to identify the alleged offender.
The has now been arrested in connection with an alleged fire-raising of a vehicle on Coltness Avenue in Allanton.
The officers are continuing enquiries in and around the Allanton and the Shotts area regarding a number of other fires reported to the police and are following positive lines of enquiry after a comprehensive review of CCTV footage and door-to-door enquiries.
Area Inspector Alan Mulholland told Lanarkshire Live : “Our officers have received numerous reports of bins being set on fire alongside vehicles and property within Shotts, Allanton and surrounding areas.
“We are following positive lines of enquiry regarding youths setting fires in the area of Shotts and are also working closely with elected members and the local community to identify individuals and take action against them.
“The male who has been arrested recently for his alleged conduct in Allanton is a sign of the commitment shown by our officers to fully investigate the incidents ongoing and their relentless efforts to expose and detect offenders.
“I would appeal for information from anyone in the community who have witnessed any fire setting or have any information to support our ongoing investigations to please contact us."
“We will continue to investigate historic enquiries from last year in to the New Year and would advise anyone involved to be mindful of our efforts to get to the bottom of their offending and to expect a knock at the door should we uncover their involvement.”
