Man arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after pedestrian hit in south London

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a pedestrian was struck in south London.

Police were called shortly after 4.30pm to reports of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Old Kent Road near Peckham Park Road.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital but he is not believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

Officers arrested a man on suspicion of drink drive and he remains in police custody.

A Met Police spokesperson told the Standard: “Police were called at 16:31hrs on Wednesday, 23 October to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Old Kent Road near to Peckham Park Road, SE15.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance all attended. The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital. His condition has been assessed as not life-threatening.

“One man was arrested on suspicion of drink drive. He remains in custody.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 4.22pm yesterday (Wednesday 24 October) to reports of a road traffic collision in Old Kent Road, SE15.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, members of our Tactical Response Unit and London’s Air Ambulance.

“The first of our crews arrived in four minutes.

“Our crews treated a man at the scene, before taking him to a London major trauma centre by road, as a priority.”
