Man Arrested Near Trump Rally Not Attempting Assassination, Officials Say

Former U.S. President Trump holds campaign rally in Rock Hill

Following an incident near Donald Trump's Saturday rally in California, federal officials have stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest an assassination attempt on the former president. The US Secret Service, in collaboration with the FBI and Justice Department, confirmed that Trump was not in any danger during the rally.

The individual in question, identified as 49-year-old Vem Miller of Las Vegas, was apprehended for illegal possession of a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco revealed that Miller managed to breach an initial perimeter near the rally in Coachella, prompting authorities to investigate further.

Upon reaching the second perimeter, irregularities were discovered in Miller's vehicle, including disarray in the interior, an unregistered status, and a fake license plate. Additionally, Miller possessed multiple driver's licenses and passports under different names, raising suspicions about his motives for being in the area.

According to Sheriff Bianco, Miller allegedly claimed to be a journalist to gain access to the rally. Subsequently, Miller was taken into custody before the event and charged with firearms offenses. He was later released on a $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 2, as per jail records.
