Kern County, California law enforcement officials arrested a man on Friday after he was seen leaving the scene of a deadly train accident while allegedly carrying a severed leg, according to reports.
A 27-year-old man, identified as Resendo Tellez, was apprehended and charged with removing human remains from a location other than a cemetery, as reported by a local source in Bakersfield.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with BNSF Railway police, responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a train at a station in Wasco around 8 a.m. on Friday. Tragically, the unidentified individual struck by the train succumbed to their injuries.
Following the collision, Tellez was observed allegedly taking the pedestrian’s leg and walking down the street with it. Deputies were able to locate and arrest Tellez without any further incident.
While the Kern County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comments on the incident, BNSF confirmed the occurrence and noted that there were no injuries sustained by the train crew.
Upon Tellez's arrest, it was discovered that he had multiple outstanding warrants pending against him. BNSF investigators have since taken over the investigation into the incident.
