Man arrested as thieves target Isle of Man TT bikers

A man has been arrested after five suspected stolen motorbikes were seized in Kirkby.

Merseyside police recently launched an investigation into criminals targeting tourists visiting the city on their way to the Isle of Man TT. Detectives carried out a warrant, in connection with the ongoing Operation Needle, at a storage unit on Randles Road.

When searching the unit they found five suspected stolen motorbikes and a quad bike. During the storage unit search on Monday, June 12, a suspect arrived at the scene and was arrested.

The man, who is 21-years-old and from Croxteth, was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and theft of a motor vehicle. He remains in police custody.

All vehicles have been forensically recovered and will be examined by the Vehicle Crime Squad in the hope of returning them to their owners.

Jack Woodward, the inspector for community policing in Liverpool, said: "This was brilliant pro-active work by officers to tackle the recent thefts of motorbikes in Liverpool city centre. When we are able to identify suspects in vehicle crime, we will always take action to trace the stolen property and return it to owners.

"All the suspected stolen vehicles have now been recovered and we are working towards reuniting them with their rightful owners. Although we have made an arrest, we are still appealing for information to help with our ongoing enquiries.

"If you have any information about this incident, or any vehicle thefts in your area, contact our social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre."
