An investigation has been launched and a man remains in custody following an assault that occurred at a residence in Co Monaghan on Sunday afternoon.
A woman, aged in her 60s, was found with serious injuries on the afternoon of Sunday, April 23 in Carrickmacross, a market town in Monaghan.
She was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where her condition is described as critical but stable.

A male, aged in his 20s, was arrested by investigating Gardaí and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Monaghan.
A Garda spokesperson said in a statement today that investigations are ongoing.
