A murder investigation has been launched after a young woman was knifed to death in south east London.
The 31-year-old was found injured inside a house on Manor Park, Hither Green, Lewisham shortly before 11.15pm on Wednesday.
Police were alerted to reports of a stabbing and responded with paramedics. Officers forced entry to the address.
Despite the efforts of the emergency services, she died at the scene a short time later.
The Metropolitan Police said urgent enquiries were carried out and a 24-year-old man was arrested at another address nearby on suspicion of murder.
A spokesman added: “He remains in custody at a south London police station.”
Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know people will be shocked by this incident and I would like to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation.“
A crime scene remains in place and people living in the area will see an increased policing presence over the coming days.
Chief Superintendent Louise Sargent, responsible for local policing in Lewisham, said: ”Tragically overnight a woman has been killed and we do not underestimate the impact this has on the local community and those who knew the victim.
“All of our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends as we do everything we can to support detectives as they go about their enquiries.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 11.09pm last night to reports of an assault on Manor Park, SE13.
“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.
“We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance by car. Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
