A man virtually asked to be arrested when he turned up at a police station with a blade in the early hours of the morning.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard William Paton, 47, shouted 'I've got a knife in my front pocket. I'm homeless. What do you expect?'.
Paton, a prisoner, admitted unlawful possession of a bladed item in Windmillhill Street, Motherwell, on August 10 this year.
Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said he phoned police about 3am and told them he was in possession of a Stanley knife.
Mr Thomson stated: "Shortly after this officers heard a commotion outside Motherwell police station.
"They went to investigate and saw Paton who seemed irate and upset.
"After repeating that he had a knife, he was detained and a small Stanley knife was found."
Defence agent Stephen McQuillan said his client was recently given a community payback order in another case, but this is likely to be revoked because of the latest offending.
Sheriff John Speir noted there appears to have been an "escalation" in Paton's offending in recent years.
He told the accused: "It's somewhat unusual that someone presents himself to the police with a view to being arrested. In the circumstances I'll obtain a criminal justice social work report before passing sentence."
The case was adjourned until next month and Paton was remanded in custody.
