He remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives. One of the women was seriously injured.

Another woman suffered minor injuries, while the other thankfully was left uninjured. Police patrols have now been stepped up after the 'concerning incident'.

Officers investigating the 'isolated' assaults are now asking for anyone for any witnesses to come forward. They particularly want to speak to anyone who might have dash cam or CCTV footage.

Chief Inspector Andrew Harty, from GMP’s Stockport district, said: "This is a concerning incident but I would like to thank our officers for the professionalism and speed in which they responded responded, as they worked quickly to prevent any further harm. Our officers are there to provide support and will be more than willing to chat to anyone – your neighbourhood officers are ultimately there to help you.

"As enquiries continue, anyone with information regarding this morning’s incident can contact police directly by calling 101 or using the Live Chat service on our website. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"In particular, I am asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage to please get in touch, as this could greatly assist the investigation."
