A 36-year-old man has today (Monday) been arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Natalie McDonald, of GMP’s City of Manchester Central Neighbourhood Crime Tea, said, “We believe the suspect we have is linked to a series of theft from motor vehicles across the City of Manchester district, including the city centre that have been reported to us.
"Over the last month we have seen a spike in theft from motor vehicle offences, particularly in Manchester city centre. Motor vehicles have been targeted by having their windows smashed before items from within being stolen. Items including trainers, perfumes, sunglasses, purses and bags have been specifically targeted.
“Our investigation has also recovered a number of items we believe are stolen property as we continue our lines of enquiry.
"We will be relentless in our pursuit of tackling crime in our communities and I strongly urge anyone who has been the victim of a crime to report it to GMP via 101 or online via www.gmp.police.uk.”
