A man was arrested after a referee was attacked on the pitch for giving a red card in a remembrance match.
Referee Dave Bradshaw was working the match between Platt Bridge and Wigan Rose on Sunday, October 2, when he issued a red card to a Platt Bridge player. Dave was then attacked in front of horrified bystanders.
It is understood the referee, who lives in Wigan, suffered broken ribs, a concussion, and a broken nose, LancsLive reports. Greater Manchester Police issued an update on Twitter to say they had arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of serious assault.
