Man arrested after police close Wallasey Tunnel for second time in day

A man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after the Wallasey Tunnel was closed for the second time in a day.

Merseyside Police attended the Kingsway Tunnel on the Vauxhall end yesterday, Sunday November 28 following reports for the safety of a man. Officers arrived at the scene at at around 2.30pm and closed the tunnel while they dealt with the incident.

Officers stopped traffic from St Anne Street in the city centre and a cordon was also put up around part of the tunnel. Merseytravel confirmed both the north and south bound slip roads on Scotland Road were closed and bus routes were diverted through the Birkenhead/Queensway Tunnel.
