Man arrested after car crashes into shop windows on Whiteladies Road

A man has been arrested after a car crashed into a number of shopfronts on Whiteladies Road today (May 30). One witness said a car had driven into several shops along the road, taking out the stall outside of Better Food Co.

He also claimed that others in the area had tried to get the driver out of his car when he hit the A-Plan Insurance shop front but the man drove off once more. He also said that, shortly after, the driver crashed into the front of AMD Solicitors.

Avon and Somerset Police told Bristol Live: “We were called at 8.53am today (Monday 30 May) to reports of a single vehicle collision on Whiteladies Road, in Bristol. On arrival at the scene, officers found a number of shop fronts had been damaged.

"One man has been arrested in connection with the incident. If anyone witnessed the incident, please call 101 and provide reference 5222127664 to the call handler.”

It is not yet known the extent of the damage or if anyone was injured as a result of the incident. However, another witness said he saw the car drive into a total of four shops over a 2-300 metre distance, adding that the driver had been "on the wrong side" of the road and had "mounted the pavement several times", before being "detained by a member of the public" and that he believed nobody was hurt.

This is not the first time a car has driven into a shopfront on Whiteladies Road. Back in April, Bristol Live reported that a Tesla had been driven through the front of a shop window there, blocking the road in both directions and causing traffic queues in the area.

A witness told Bristol Live at the time how the black car "went flying into the window" of luxury furniture store, Arlo & Jacob - pictures of one of the sofas 'in pieces' could be seen in one image form the crash.
